Welcome to the Banana's Class!

 

Dear Banana's Families,

It is hard to believe we have made it through the first month of our school year! We have loved getting to know your child and watching the new friendships form in our class. This month we have learned all about our new class and friends, as well as, all of our new routines and rules for the classroom and school. Our friends are having so much fun exploring the new centers in our classroom and the various toys, materials, and activities found in those centers.  

In our table toys center/math center, the friends engaged in measuring, counting, and sorting activities with unifix cubes. The friends were encouraged to measure various types of houses and buildings, sort the unifix cubes by color, and count how many they used. They also engaged in a matching/turn taking game by matching their pictures of their new friends!

 

 

We have been really busy in our art center this month! The friends explored play with paint, watercolor paints, paint sticks, markers, and crayons to create their self portraits, family portraits, and a school family painting. 


  

  

 

Our block center has been a very popular center for our friends to play in. They have loved engaging in play with their peers in this center and have worked together to construct various houses, schools, towers, and buildings! 

  

We have also loved our time spent in various other centers around the classroom and outside! We are looking forward to next month and learning about emotions and ending the month with our Fall unit!

Transportation!

It is so hard to believe that we are only three weeks away from summer! This school year has flown by! Our friends have had so much FUN learning about transportation this month. We have explored the various types of transportation (land, sea, air) and the different modes of transportation that we can use to get from place to place.  Our dramatic play center has been transformed into a car mechanic shop, airport, and a summer/beach play with a boat. The friends have taken on roles as mechanic, customer, pilot, flight attendant, passenger, captain, employer, and more. They explored the various tools needed when working with cars and the different roles needed when traveling in an airplane.  In the block center, our friends used blocks to build roads and bridges for traveling.            In table toys the friends used their classification skills to identify which transportation vehicle was different. April- Spring!

  It is hard to believe that we have already made it through April and are approaching our last full month of this school year! We have had so much fun at school this month learning about the season of Spring!  In the block center, the friends worked together to design and build flower shops and gardens with their friends. In the dramatic play center they engaged in play in our Flower Shop. The friends created bouquets and flower arrangements for their friends, they "planted" seeds to grow flowers, and engaged in role playing as gardener, employee, and customer.     The friends used various tools in the science center to explore the various parts of the flower and plants. They examined the stem, petals, leaves, and talked about the process of growing flowers and plants.     Our friends were busy in the math and literacy centers creating their own patterns and identifying and matching rhyming words. November!

      It is hard to believe that November has come and gone! This month was full of learning and fun as we closed out our Fall unit by exploring leaves, learned all about the weather, and spent a few days reflecting on the things that we are most thankful for!  During our leaf unit, the friends took a nature walk to explore their outside environment and used what they found on the walk to explore and investigate in the classroom and used these items for various projects in our centers. They used the leaves they collected in art to create their very own "Leaf Man"and in science used microscopes and magnifying glasses to examine the leaves.          After we completed our Fall unit, the friends voted to explore the topic of Weather.
