February!



We have been so busy this month learning more about our friends and beginning our community helper unit. We started the month with our friendship unit and explored ways we can be a good friend and work together. After we finished our friendship unit, we started learning about various community helpers. We have been exploring a different community helper each week and so far, have learned about mail carriers and fire fighters; we are currently learning about police officers. 

In the science center we worked together with our friends and used various materials to see what we could design and build. Our friends created bridges, towers, pyramids, and more using popsicle sticks, cups, bears, etc..

  

In the literacy center we practiced writing and building letters with hearts and matching upper and lower case letters of the alphabet. 

   

  

In the blocks center we worked with our friends to build roads and buildings that we might find in our community. Take a look at the fire stations that our friends built!

  

Our dramatic play center has been transformed into a post office, fire station, and currently a police office. The friends engaged in play as if they were a mail carrier, fire fighter, police officer, detective, customer, person in need, and more. During the week when we were learning about mail carriers, we learned about the steps to mailing a letter and everything the letter must need to be sent in the mail. We wrote a letter to the Grapes class and were so excited when they received our mail and even sent us a letter back!

 

In the math center we used our manipulatives to measure and compare lengths and widths of the pictures that we were measuring and matched and identified various shapes. 

 


During the friendship unit we created water color portraits with our friends. Our friends each picked a peer to paint with and talked about what they wanted to create. We used shapes to create fire fighters and mail trucks and added paint to the easel to paint fire extinguishers and fire trucks. 

  
 

  

 

  

 We have had so much FUN this month and look forward to continuing our community helper unit and learning about doctors, dentist, and construction workers!

It is so hard to believe that we are only three weeks away from summer! This school year has flown by! Our friends have had so much FUN learning about transportation this month. We have explored the various types of transportation (land, sea, air) and the different modes of transportation that we can use to get from place to place.  Our dramatic play center has been transformed into a car mechanic shop, airport, and a summer/beach play with a boat. The friends have taken on roles as mechanic, customer, pilot, flight attendant, passenger, captain, employer, and more. They explored the various tools needed when working with cars and the different roles needed when traveling in an airplane.  In the block center, our friends used blocks to build roads and bridges for traveling.            In table toys the friends used their classification skills to identify which transportation vehicle was different. April- Spring!

  It is hard to believe that we have already made it through April and are approaching our last full month of this school year! We have had so much fun at school this month learning about the season of Spring!  In the block center, the friends worked together to design and build flower shops and gardens with their friends. In the dramatic play center they engaged in play in our Flower Shop. The friends created bouquets and flower arrangements for their friends, they "planted" seeds to grow flowers, and engaged in role playing as gardener, employee, and customer.     The friends used various tools in the science center to explore the various parts of the flower and plants. They examined the stem, petals, leaves, and talked about the process of growing flowers and plants.     Our friends were busy in the math and literacy centers creating their own patterns and identifying and matching rhyming words. Apples and Pumpkins

     We have had so much FUN beginning our Fall unit this month! The friends have been very busy exploring and learning about apples and pumpkins in the various centers and activities around the classroom.       The art center was a very popular center this month where the friends painted with apples, pumpkins, and gourds. We painted individual pumpkins, we painted pumpkins as a class, we used apples to create patterns, and so much more!                     Our dramatic play center was transformed into a Farmers Market/Apple Orchard where the friends engaged in play with picking apples, making recipes with apples, and engaging in various roles of play in a market (customer, cashier, baker,etc..).  We also incorporated apples and pumpkins into our table toys/math, literacy, and science centers!
